Abyssle (abyssle.app) · Effective 2026-10-25
Abyssle is a free browser word game. This page explains what we collect, which is very little, and what we do with it.
One anonymous player cookie. Your first visit sets a single first-party cookie, ab_pid, holding a randomly generated id with no personal information in it — no name, no email, nothing that identifies you. It exists so your dives, daily streak, and leaderboard position can be kept between visits. It does not track you across other sites, and it is never shared with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else.
Your answers. When you submit an answer to a prompt, we record the answer text and the prompt it was for. We keep this as an anonymous count ("142 people said tomato for this prompt"). It is not linked to you, your device, or any account. We use these counts to see how common each answer is, which is how the rarity tiers and difficulty ratings work.
Your scores. When you finish a dive, we record your score against the anonymous id in that cookie so it can appear on the leaderboards and count toward your daily streak. On the leaderboards you show up as an anonymous name like Miner #a1b2 (the first few characters of your id) unless you later choose to set a display name. Your detailed round-by-round history is still kept in your own browser's local storage for display on your device; clearing your browser data removes that local copy, but your recorded leaderboard scores stay attached to your anonymous id.
Connection records. Like every website, our hosting provider records basic technical information when your browser connects: your IP address, the time, the page requested, and your browser type. These records are kept for a short period for security and debugging and are then discarded.
Visitor counts. We use no analytics for now. If we add analytics later, it will be privacy-first (no fingerprinting, no tracking across sites) and will only give us aggregate numbers such as how many people visited and which pages they viewed.
The game is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Because we hold nothing that identifies you, there is nothing for us to look up or delete on request. To remove your local history, clear your browser's site data for abyssle.app. If you want a submitted answer removed from the anonymous counts, email us and tell us the prompt and the answer.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the home page for a while.
